Nigerias comedy siblings They Occurred The Boys went viral in June 9 here online video,
mimicking Hollywood here.
Nigerias own film industry Hollywood would has also had to get creative,
with staying productive and safe during the covid 19 pandemic.
Actor assured that says the coronavirus has cost him a lot of work,
It is my first set since this Quraan of aten started,
and what I asked today is no easy task,
We just learned to live with the virus and life goes on,
so we need to adjust ourself and keep on going,
because if you said because the fear of corona virus you will come across,
said you have nothing to do apart from filmmaking.
Nollywood produces the second biggest quantity of films in the world after Indias Bollywood,
and employs over 1 million people,
but a coronvirus shut down cinemas global,
and forcing many filmmakers to delay productions.
Recently theres been this whole composition about what is going to happen,
whatever make us is supposed to do,
and were having this conversation that right now before you get on sets,
you have to test your cast and crew,
you have to isolate them in a particular place,
for maybe 14 days and all of that before you can unset,
so this has been a lot of spike in the budget,
thats filmmakers would normally spend.
The added costs has forced some Nollywood directors to cut back on the quantity of films,
but as Parent filmmaker William cheetah Bay says,
he sees it as an opportunity to work smarter.
We can always all multitask you know cant do a lot of things,
especially now you dont have the luxury to deal with a large crew,
you can begin to do more than one thing that you know that youre strong,
you know that youre good at, yeah,
and youre good at editing and youre good at shooting,
but so you do the both of them.
Creatively scripting scenes for social distancing is key to coping with the realities of covid-19,
says writer-director Umar Aqui,
so whats to stop a group of people you know writing a story around maybe a particular piece of scenery,
around a particular Hill around a particular tree.
you know Im producing that ,
but really I feel like the most important thing is to be able to challenge ourselves in terms of the writing,
and in terms of conceptualization,
in a way that allows us to produce work that doesnt expose us to the dangers of covid19.
While Nollywood has taken a hit from the pandemic,
Nigerian filmmakers are confident that the creative treatment the industry will recover.
